Listening: New Every Morning Song

Listening: New Every Morning Song

In the beginning, you hovered over the water
You broke an unbroken silence
You spoke light into darkness
And there was light

In the beginning, we were made in your image
And we were naked without shame
Till we fell for the darkness
And there was night

Your mercies are new
Your mercies are new
New every morning
Your mercies are new
Your mercies are new
New every morning

In the beginning, there was the Word and he was God
And the Word was with God
And he dwelt among us
And there was life

Listening: Wood and Nails Song

Listening: Wood and Nails Song

O humble carpenter, down on your hands and knees,
look on your handiwork and build a house
so you may dwell in Me,
so you may dwell in Me.

REFRAIN 1:
The work was done with nothing but
wood and nails in Your scar-borne hands
O show me how to work and praise
trusting that I am Your instrument.

VERSE 2:
O loving laborer with the sweat upon your face,
oh, build a table that I may too may join you
in the Father’s place
oh, in the Father’s place!

Listening: Be Thou My Vision Oh Lord of My Heart Hymn Song

Listening: Be Thou My Vision Oh Lord of My Heart Hymn Song

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart

Listening: God's Gonna Cut You Down by Johnny Cash

Listening: God's Gonna Cut You Down by Johnny Cash

Well my goodness gracious let me tell you the news
My head's been wet with the midnight dew
I've been down on bended knee talkin' to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of the angel's feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, "John go do My will!"

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

Listening: Sing Like Never Before Album by Matt Redman

Listening: Sing Like Never Before Album by Matt Redman

Matt Redman has put together a great album to listen and even sing-along to. There's several songs that are hymn-like and for the collective of people singing anthemically. Meaning, historical hymns tend to be rich with biblical truths and realities. There are also songs that reflect or mirror the inability sometimes to express in a breath of words and retain simplicity to repetition and summary like in Revelation 4:8, " ... Day and night they never cease to say, 'Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!'" The first three songs of Matt Rodman's album, Sing Like Never Before, are tremendous and reflect these truths: 1) 10,000 Reasons (Psalms; Bless the Lord); 2) Our God; and 3) Better is One Day. Regardless, let the cause of our song not be a song but the God who created us to sing

Singing: Church Sings Together Like at a Banquet

Singing: Church Sings Together Like at a Banquet

Isaac Wardell with BiFrostArts.com helpfully explains what we want of people singing together. We are not promoting "hymn sings" as Isaac mentions, but the heart of what Isaac is getting at where we sing together. And we want people to sing together regardless of style, genre, or song. Isaac ends the video by how songs bring different ages together, but we see the gospel as the unifier and cause of singing. The point of singing is the One who caused a song in us and caused us to come together as a "host (crowd) of voices" as Isaac mentions. The Bible's word "church" comes from the Greco-Roman time period referring to people who gather as part of their life for a certain reason and belief to learn and live by their convictions.

Listening: The Gospel That Makes a Way

Listening: The Gospel That Makes a Way

Ryan Stevenson brings talent and biblical-lyrical truth to bear on listeners that brings an inspiration to hear and learn the gospel. Ryan sings and declares alike to what Paul says in Romans 1:16, "I am unashamed of the gospel ... " Ryan lyrically reveals the 'restless'ness and sinful separation of God by a generation alike to previous generations always in need of hearing the gospel. Christianity is about this 'Christ' Jesus of the Bible and history.

Listening: Looking for a Church and Community?

Listening: Looking for a Church and Community?

Aaron Menikoff, pastor of a church in Atlanta, GA, writes this recent article entitled, "You Don't Find Community by Looking for It." This would be one of many resources we can point to for anyone to read, learn from, affirm, or change in their understanding of Christ and Christianity, especially as one is "looking for a church" or "looking for community." There seems to be many ways to describe a local church like house church, family church, mega-church or other ways like through the church name, denomination, association, or network. More often, these categories become unhelpful and fillers for conversation. We want to see the conversation change along with lives changing because of God's work in people's heart and lives through the gospel of Christ and making known that "Christianity" is all about "Christ."
